York racecourse is situated in North Yorkshire in the picturesque town of York with excellent connections to the train station and accommodation. The course offers flat racing throughout the summer and is flat throughout the track making it well suited for galloping fast paced horses. York racecourse recently received an award for the best racecourse in the UK. This isn’t much a surprise due to the excellent facilities available and great views across the course. The great thing about racing at York is the friendly crowds and it’s not too expensive to enter with reasonable pricing. The racecourse has been around since the early 1700’s with lots of racing history in it’s heritage.

The course is very fair with long sweeping bends making it suitable for all horses especially galloping long striding horses. There are 23 feature races every year with the most popular 4 days of the year being the Ebor festival. Every August is the Ebor festival with 3 group races being the Nunthorpe Stakes, Yorkshire Oaks and the Juddmonte International Stakes. Early on in the year the course hosts the Dante meeting with over 300,000 horse racing enthusiasts visiting every year!

The elongated oval course now races in a left handed direction after major development 10 years ago. The track is over 1 mile and 7 furlongs with a long home straight which is a spectacle to see at the finish of every race. Most races start from far out with a strong pace and more often than not, horses from the back of the field often come past the front runners to go on and win a race. There have been many different views on this over the years and it’s definitely something we think about in our York racing tips.

With our free York horse racing tips we take into consideration the draw bias, course and distance form and info from local stables. Those drawn high at York unusually do well on good ground. When the ground is a bit softer a lower draw is best but it’s not a massive advantage with the home straight being long enough to make up ground from the back.

Local trainers often do well at York including David O’Meara, Tim Easterby and Richard Fahey. This season the trainer who is having the most success and the highest strike rate is William Haggas. From 42 runs this year so far he has racked up 12 wins giving him a 28.6% strike rate making him the number 1 trainer so far.

Jockeys who do well at York are Andrea Atzeni, William Buick, David Allen and Daniel Tudhope. Atzeni and Buick are joint top jockeys this year so far with William having less rides giving him a higher strike rate of 19.4%.
