Hexham Racecourse is situated in Northumberland in a lovely setting in the countryside. Towards the end of May the Heart of all England Maiden Hunters Chase is ran at Hexham and is one of the biggest meeting of the fixture list at Hexham. The course is the most northern course in the UK for National Hunt racing. The racing season here only runs through the summer due to mainly better weather conditions for racing.
The course spans over 1 mile and 4 furlongs and the oval track races in a left handed direction with 11 fences in one full circuit. There is a tough climb to the finish which makes it important for horses to have stamina a power to keep the pace towards the end of the race. The fences are known to be quite easy for jockeys to jump with 2 open ditches and a water jump.
When betting at Hexham we recommend local trainers or experienced course jockeys who know how to ride the course off the back of their hand. Previous course form is imperative to getting results on the day. Another way to check for is looking at previous form at Cheltenham, this is a very similar track and favourable for Cheltenham winners.
Popular jockeys on the course are Lucinda Russell, Brian Ellison and Brian Hughes. Hughes has had more races at Hexham than any other jockey on the course.
