Haydock Racecourse is situated in Manchester and is known worldwide as one of the best racecourses in the north of England. The course is suited to long striding gallopers especially when the course is going soft. The racecourse is used for both Flat racing and National Hunt horse racing. Haydock Park is very flat and races in a left hand direction.
Haydock Park opened in 1889 and is one of the most used courses in the UK. It hosts a whopping 32 races every year and is very popular for racegoers. It boasts 4 grandstands which is needed for the high attendance it receives at every race day.
Both the Flat and the Jumps course uses the same oval shape with a leg attached to the home straight for the sprint races. Horses tend to ride in the centre of the track and is quite a stiff course with not much pace throughout. The fences used in the National Hunt are portable making them not the most difficult fences to jump making room for mistakes for novice jumpers in horse racing.
The best position to win a race at Haydock is to be ahead coming out of the straight. Keeping the pace from here will end in winning the race. Popular jockeys on the course are Daryl Jacobs, Brian Hughes with Dan Skelton being the top trainer.
The course is 1 mile and 4 furlongs with a few undulations on the way. The National Hunt course features 10 fences, the hurdles course is shorter with only 6 flights of jumps.
